Jon Jones vs. Alexander Gustafsson II set for September 27

Jon Jones has finally agreed to rematch Alexander Gustafsson. The UFC light heavyweight champion met with UFC CEO Lorenzo Fertita and president Dana White Thursday and came to terms on his next opponent and fight date.

In a statement released Thursday night on UFC.com, Jones said that, though he never had a problem fighting Gustafsson again after their brutal title bout last fall, he believes that Daniel Cormier is the tougher opponent. That said, Jones said that he's happy to do what he feels the fans and the UFC want, just at a later time than the originally planned August date.

"I think Cormier is the tougher fighter, but the fans want to see me fight Gustafsson," Jones said.

"There was never an issue with taking the Gustafsson fight. The issue was that my brother is getting married in July and I would have preferred a later date. I didn't want to go this early and I would have preferred to go later in October or November. It is what it is. We have a date now, Sept 27th. This was a personal decision for me. I will be at my brother's wedding and have a proper training camp."

At the end of the day, Jones said that he simply needed to sit down with the UFC brass in order to come to an agreement on who he'd fight next. "There was never an issue with a contract," Jones said.

"I was traveling and finally got to Vegas and got to talk with Dana and Lorezno. We talked and September 27th, I'll be fighting Gustafsson."

There. Happy now?
