Louisiana fighter Kurt Holobaugh has had a very hot start to his mixed martial arts career. He has rattled off eight straight wins with seven professional fights and one amateur. To keep his hot streak going, Holobaugh will fight at Fight Force International's event in Biloxi, Miss., on Saturday.
Earlier that day, he has a little bit of business to take care of. He is going to get married on the shores of the Gulf of Mexico. The best part is that it was her idea.
"It was my wife's idea," Holobaugh told MMA Fighting. "Biloxi's a pretty city and she's a fan of the beach, so we're going to have a minister do a ceremony there. When we get home, we'll do a big reception and have family and team members down here. It should be good, it will be good to come home married and with a victory and celebrate."
Holobaugh is very smart to marry this woman. For the fighters out there, if you find a partner who shares your love of the sport so much that the wedding and a fight can fall on the same day, you lock it down.

Two athletes who have made their mark in other combat sports are making their MMA debut this weekend.
On Friday, Steve Mocco will make his MMA debut at Resurrection Fighting Alliance. Mocco is one of the best-credentialed wrestlers to make the jump to MMA. He represented the U.S. in the Olympics in 2008, won a Division I NCAA title and the Dan Hodge Trophy, which is awarded to the best collegiate wrestler across divisions. His foot sweep confounded opponents as they had a hard time defending against Mocco's speed.
He will fight Tyler Perry -- no, not Madea -- on Friday. Though he knows he'll have high expectations, he told MMA Fighting he is most excited about competing again.
You know, I just want to compete. If it's on the feet, I want to get the better of the feet and if it's on the ground, I want to get the better of him on the ground. Wherever we'll find ourselves on the floor, I want to do better at.
For Spong, he is jumping to MMA after a long career as a kickboxer. Before tomorrow's debut with the World Series of Fighting, he's won several titles in different promotions, and even once defeated Ray Sefo, the president of WSOF.
Spong is making his debut against Travis Bartlett, and admitted to MMA Junkie he has some nerves going into the fight.
"The most important thing is that I'm not overlooking him," he said of Bartlett. "I'm focusing on the fight; I'm not listening to what other people say. I'm an experienced fighter, so I know what's important."
His fight will air on NBC Sports Network on Saturday night.

The past 11 months haven't been great for former WEC bantamweight champion Miguel Torres. In December, he was cut from the UFC for making a tasteless joke on Twitter. He was brought back for an April bout with Michael McDonald, and was knocked out in the first round. He was then cut from the UFC again.
Now, he has landed with the World Series of Fighting, the new promotion that will debut on NBC Sports Network this Saturday.
He talks about how he's still in the process of refining his game, going from the crazy and wild fighter WEC fans knew to the controlled, planning fighter he is working to be now. He also says he doesn't see Saturday's bout against Marlon Moraes as a comeback, but a homecoming. When Torres was with the WEC, he fought on Versus, the channel that was turned into NBC Sports.
Though he may say it's not a comeback, this is the kind of opportunity that can help Torres get his career back on track. He's on television again and fighting away from the UFC or WEC for the first time since 2007. It's a shot to remind MMA fans of the kind of fighter he can be.

The UFC has also confirmed that Mitchell will be paid his show money and they will find him another fight.

According to sources close to the fighter, UFC doctors nixed the bout. While an exact reason for the scratch wasn’t given, additional sources suggested complications during Lim’s weight cut were responsible for the move.
The fight card will now proceed with nine fights, and Mitchell will be paid his show money.
Mitchell likely was getting a final shot at a first UFC win. After opening his career with a perfect 11-0 mark, the former Tachi Palace Fights champ signed with the UFC and promptly suffered back-to-back octagon losses to T.J. Waldburger and Paulo Thiago, though his most recent appearance came back in August 2011.

Anthony Pettis is now part owner of his home gym Roufusport. Alongside �head trainer Duke Roufus and general manager Scott Joffe, Pettis will now be a co-owner and operator Roufusport MMA Academy and�the (North American Fighting Championships (NAFC)�promotion. Pettis made the announcement in a press release Monday afternoon.�

There is no doubt Ronda Rousey is currently the face of the women?s mixed martial arts landscape, but Miesha Tate wants to remind everyone that Rousey is enjoying the fruits of many others spoils. Rousey has been receiving a lot of credit for giving WMMA a lot of attention, and now that Rousey will most likely end up being the first female fighter in the UFC, Tate is making sure to remind everyone that she didn?t alone. Is Tate just angling for another fight with Rouse? Perhaps, In one of the biggest fights of Strikeforce?s history Tate was finished by Rousey early in the fight, but there is a long history of women fighting mixed martial arts.
Tate told told MMAWeekly,
?It?s not just Ronda, it?s not just myself, that?s for sure. If Ronda?s coming over to the UFC obviously there?s going to be a division around that, it?s not just Ronda. I know Ronda?s getting a lot of the credit and what not, but she didn?t have a lot to do with from the ground up..?
?We?re at the top of the mountain now that?s kind of how I feel anyways, with this accomplishment coming into the UFC, we?ve kind of reached that final goal. But we had to start at the bottom and a lot of the pioneers Tara LaRosa, Marloes Coenen, Molly Helsel, the girls that were really fighting back in the day before we were making any kind of money, or there was any kind of publicity, or much acceptance of it.?
?We were fighting for this, right here, right now. She?s getting a lot of the credit and the limelight, but people who follow the sport understand there was a lot more getting to this point. I hope people can recognize that and give all the women that have worked really hard some credit.?

Nick Diaz has never made a secret about his marijuana use. Even after Diaz tested positive for marijuana when he fought Takanori Gomi and served his suspension, he was very public about saying he had ways to pass a drug test for cannabis. Nevada Athletic Commission (NAC) Director Keith Kizer recently talked about the steps Diaz took to attempt to pass his test following his decision loss to Carlos Condit.
Kizer talked about Diaz drinking a lot of water prior to submitting a urine sample per the request of the commission. It was a clear attempt at diluting the sample Kizer �told Middleeasy.com:
“That story came from Diaz drinking a lot of water afterwards. Those water bottles were eight-ounce bottles, so 24 bottles is about a gallon-and-a-half if my math is right. I saw what Diaz drank. And we know why. And you can play games about it if you want, but we know why. Cesar called me during the case and said, ‘Look, I want to sit with you. Nick and I want to sit down with you.’ I said, ‘Look, Cesar, you gotta call Ross Goodman. He’s the attorney. You gotta go through him. We’re happy to do that, we’ve offered it several times to Ross.’ [Cesar] said ‘I will call Ross right away.’ We never heard back from him after that. I don’t know what the conversation was between him and Ross, but we’ve always had a good relationship. I expect to have a good one with Cesar in the future.”
Despite multiple attempts from Diaz and his manager Cesar Gracie, Diaz is still under suspension until January of 2013. �Diaz has recently brought the case to court and they are still in litigation, but the red tape might take the process well past Diaz?s return date.
