UFC 158 shuffled after Rory MacDonald injury

When the UFC announced the mostly welterweight line-up for UFC 158, it was near the end of injury-2012. After so many big fights were affected by injury, the UFC wisely prepared in case one of their fighters had to pull out of his bout. It turned out to be a smart move, as Rory MacDonald had to pull out of his bout with Carlos Condit.

Now, Johny Hendricks, who was supposed to fight Jake Ellenberger at UFC 158, is stepping in to face Condit. Ellenberger also has his opponent set. Nate Marquardt saw an opportunity and tweeted:

He later corrected the date of the fight to March 16, but didn't change his sentiment. He still wanted the Ellenberger bout, and got his wish. Marquardt will face Ellenberger at UFC 158. The updated main card now includes the UFC welterweight champ, the former UFC interim champ, and the former Strikeforce champion.

Champion Georges St-Pierre vs. Nick Diaz
Carlos Condit vs. Johny Hendricks
Jake Ellenberger vs. Nate Marquardt
Chris Camozzi vs. Nick Ring
Colin Fletcher vs. Mike Ricci

Marquardt lost the Strikeforce welterweight belt in the promotion's final card. He dropped a decision to Tarec Saffiedine. This will be Marquardt's first fight with the UFC since he was cut from the promotion the day before a fight. Marquardt couldn't get clearance from the state commission to fight because of his high testosterone levels.

Want to make early picks on the new fights? Speak up in the comments, on Facebook or on Twitter.

Three questions that will be answered by UFC on Fuel 7

The UFC brings a title fight -- kinda -- to Fuel TV on Saturday night. Though Comcast and Fox's networks did reach a deal to bring Fuel to its subscribers, the channel won't yet be available for this weekend's bouts and the interesting card in England. No matter who tunes in, here are the intriguing questions around this weekend's bouts.

Is welterweight a better UFC fit for Jorge Santiago? Despite a long and successful career in Sengoku and Strikeforce, his last stint with the UFC didn't go so well. Santiago lost to Demian Maia and Brian Stann. After a first-round knockout in the Titan Fighting Championships, Santiago is back as a welterweight. He'll take on undefeated phenom Gunnar Nelson.

Are Cub Swanson or Dustin Poirier ready for the title shot? Though the UFC's featherweight division is top-heavy and a fight is set between champion Jose Aldo and Anthony Pettis, Swanson and Poirier's bout will show if there is another worthy contender. Swanson, who lost to Aldo in the WEC, wants to be part of the conversation:

?I just want people to mention me up there. I don?t care if I get in next. I?m just concentrating on this fight. But just mention my damn name when you mention the people who deserve it. That?s all I want.?

Poirier lost to Chan Sung Jung in May, then beat Jonathan Brookins in December. He took the fight with Swanson as a late replacement for Dennis Siver, and is hoping a win puts him closer to a title fight.

"The truth is, if I go out there and beat Cub Swanson, I'll be right there at the title if not maybe one more fight away," Poirier said.

Saturday's fight will show if one of these men belong in the discussion.

What is the value of an interim belt? Perhaps this question is a bit too philosophical for a fight preview, but it's worth asking as Renan Barao attempts to defend his interim bantamweight belt against Michael McDonald. Barao won the belt last summer because champion Dominick Cruz has been out for an extended time as his knee heals. But with Cruz waiting in the wings, does this belt have the same oomph as the one Cruz is holding? It feels like whoever wins this fight won't so much be the champion as the no. 1 contender for Cruz's return. Regardless of the accessory handed out at the end of the fight, the two should put on a fight worth watching.

Will you be tuning in? Don't forget these are daytime fights. The Facebook preliminaries are at 12:15 ET, and the main card on Fuel is at 3 p.m. ET.

Ring card girl doesn?t notice knocked out fighter (Video)

At MMA events, there is rarely anything to pay attention to besides the fight. It's not like an NBA game, where there are cheerleaders and mascot races and dance squads and staring at Derrick Rose's knee to will it towards healing. (Maybe that was just my last trip to an NBA game.) At fights, you watch fights, and maybe the big screen at bigger UFC or Bellator events.

The singularity of events means you really shouldn't miss a knockout. Even if you look down for a minute and miss the punch, you generally don't miss the fighter laying on the ground and medical staff tending to him. You don't miss it, unless you're this woman employed to be a ring card girl.

She just walks by the fighter on his back. It's really an incredible level of obliviousness. Thankfully, staff in the cage tells her the fight is over.

Thanks, With Leather.

Ronda Rousey?s Confidence Never Wavered in Clash with Liz Carmouche

Rousey v Carmouche

UFC bantamweight champ Ronda Rousey had her hand raised once again in standard fashion last night at UFC 157, finishing foe Liz Carmouche off with an Armbar in the fight?s first frame. The stoppage was the tenth time in ten total tilts (including three amateur outings) Rousey had tapped an opponent with the technique before…

One FC?s Peter Davis is a fighter, model, actor and a ?Hot Guy Who Cooks?

Peter Davis is a model, actor, and has worked in finance. He also once worked in finance, and appeared on an Asian television show called, "Hot Guys Who Cook." In addition to those roles, Davis will take his 5-1 record to One FC 7 this weekend, where he will fight Leo Krishna in Kuala Lumpur.

Davis said that fighting, acting and modeling are not as different as you would think.

"I'm in entertainment. In modeling, acting, film, and sometimes I do fighting," Davis told Cagewriter. "It's a bit of a strange thing to do, considering modeling and acting but it's still all entertainment."

He has had runway shows and commercial shoots after fights. When he told agents about fights, they rarely understood what MMA entailed. He has been asked if he wore headgear to fights.

"The agencies are usually quite concerned when I say I'm going to fight. Headgear? Kind of?"

He describes his style of fighting as unorthodox, comparing it to Lyoto Machida.

"If they're looking at me, and they're looking at my fighting style, it's just not very orthodox. I end up with lots of options with my striking. My ground game is quite reasonable. I can roll with brown belts and purple belts, but I'm a stand-up fighter who has the power to knock people out."

Being elusive helps him from getting too beat up in the face, which helps with modeling.

"It's really the modeling style," Davis joked.

The son of a British man and Malaysian woman, Davis started fighting in 2004 in the UK, but retired in 2006. He continued to train, but didn't fight again until the MMA scene heated up in Malaysia, where he now lives. Now, he fights to test himself and see where the fight world will take him.

"I want to see that what I know does work, but to win a title belt would be nice. That would be amazing. It's such a huge event. After that, I don't know what I'd like to do. Whether it's acting, modeling or fighting. I don't want a long and arduous career of being punched in the face. I'd like to do more fights, maybe get a title belt and see where it takes me."

This weekend, it means a bout with Leo Krishna at One FC 7. Check out pay-per-view information here.

?The Ultimate Fighter? season premiere talkback thread

After last season's ratings were disappointing, the UFC and FX are going for broke with the latest season of "The Ultimate Fighter." The show was moved to Tuesday nights, and the UFC made a championship fight between Jon Jones and Chael Sonnen, who is coming off a loss at middleweight. Sonnen, whose trash talk borders on WWE antics, will coach a team against Jones' team. At the end of the season, they are scheduled to fight at UFC 159.

The show debuts at 8 p.m. ET on Tuesday night with a two-hour premiere. Are you planning to tune in? Here's your spot to talk about the show. Speak up in the comments or on Cagewriter's Facebook page.
