Junior dos Santos says Alistair Overeem is a joke, but admires opponent Mark Hunt

Junior dos Santos was supposed to face Alistair Overeem at UFC 160, but an injury forced Overeem out of the bout. Now, dos Santos will fight Mark Hunt. JDS talked to a Brazilian radio station, and said he admired one of those opponents but found the other to be a joke.

"I think it was great the UFC have scheduled Mark Hunt. I admire him very much for having accepted because he just fought. I admire and appreciate because I want to fight May 25 and this will happen thanks to him. When Overeem jumped off I thought it was great that the UFC came by with another opponent. [Overeem] isn?t a champion, he?s nothing. If he was a champion, I would wait."

So JDS is a fan of Hunt, and doesn't think it's worth waiting for a bout with Overeem. But how does he feel about Overeem?

"I think [Overeem] is a joke. He is very big, he's on steroids and he talks a lot of [expletive]. But I don't care about him. He can go on with his career and do what he thinks is the best for him, I will do the same. If some day we face each other and he runs out of problems, we fight."

Overeem and dos Santos were set to fight last May, when dos Santos still held the UFC heavyweight championship belt. The fight was canceled when Overeem failed a PED test. He was found to have excessive levels of testosterone, more than double of that the athletic commission in Nevada allowed.

Overeem was suspended, and then lost to Antonio Silva on his return to the cage. With dos Santos fresh off losing his belt to Cain Velasquez, it seemed like a perfect opportunity for the two rivals to square off.

MMA Marketplace: The UFC 158 walkout shirts

It's time to look at the UFC 158 main event in the most important aspect: the walkout shirts. Looking at the shirts of Nick Diaz and Georges St-Pierre, who has the edge?

Both the contender and the champion have black shirts that have an MMA design that doesn't look all that different than ones we've seen before. Diaz's shirt says where he's from, the 209, and what he's hoping to accomplish, which is world domination. GSP's is just GSP's. Nothing too exciting. Between that, and the ridiculous price of $57.99, Diaz is the winner in a tight decision.

Get Diaz's shirt for $23.99 here, and GSP's here for wayyyyy too much money.

Matchmaker, matchmaker: Two title bouts and the UFC?s first trip to Winnipeg among the many events announced

So, so, so many fights were announced in the past 24 hours. Here's a breakdown of what you will be seeing in coming months.

-- As you've seen from the front of Yahoo! Sports MMA, middleweight champion Anderson Silva's title bout with Chris Weidman at UFC 162 has been confirmed. It's Silva's second straight Fourth of July weekend card appearance. He won by TKO over Chael Sonnen last summer. Will he do the same against Weidman?

Also on that card will be Mark Munoz vs. Tim Boetsch, Rafael "Feijao" Cavalcante vs. Thiago Silva, and Roger Gracie vs. Tim Kennedy.

-- An injury to Alistair Overeem has forced his bout with Junior dos Santos off of UFC 160. The fight will likely take place later this summer.

-- In June, the UFC will head to Winnipeg for the first time for UFC 161. The card will be headlined with an interim bantamweight title belt bout between Renan Barao and Eddie Wineland. Also on that card, Rashad Evans will fight Dan Henderson, Antonio Rogerio Nogueira will fight Mauricio Rua, and Jake Shields will fight Tyron Woodley in a battle of Strikeforce vets.

-- Two bouts were also added to UFC on Fox 7 in April in San Jose. Flyweight Joseph Benavidez will fight Darren Uyenoyama, and Francisco Rivera will fight Hugo Viana in a bantamweight bout.

Dan Henderson gets bigger payday than Ronda Rousey, but disclosed sums don?t tell whole story

The California Athletic Commission announced the reported salaries from UFC 157 over the weekend. While Ronda Rousey and Liz Carmouche dominated headlines with the first female bout in UFC history, it was Lyoto Machida and Dan Henderson who made the biggest sums of reported money after squaring off in 157's co-main event.

Here are the reported salaries of the top five fights from the card (via MMA Weekly):

Ronda Rousey: $90,000 (includes $45,000 win bonus) def. Liz Carmouche: $12,000

Lyoto Machida: $200,000 (no win bonus) def. Dan Henderson: $250,000

Urijah Faber: $100,000 (includes $50,000 win bonus) def. Ivan Menjivar: $17,000

Court McGee: $40,000 (includes $20,000 win bonus) def. Josh Neer: $16,000

Robbie Lawler: $105,000 (includes $10,000 win bonus) def. Josh Koscheck: $78,000

It may stand out to the casual fan that Rousey and Carmouche made much less money on paper than Henderson and Machida. But there are a few things to consider as the money disclosed here is only what promoters are required to report by law.

[Also: Concern is growing among devoted followers of popular UFC fighter Wanderlei Silva]

It does not include money the fighters make of pay-per-view sales. Quite often, fighters at the top of the card will make a percentage of the pay-per-view profits. Early reports have UFC 157 with 400-500,000 pay-per-views, so it could mean a good payday for the headliners.

The UFC also is known to give out "locker room bonuses," or extra money because of a good performance that they are not required to report to the athletic commissions.

During the run-up to UFC 157, Carmouche talked about how she didn't have much furniture in her home and drove a rundown car. UFC president Dana White promised after the fights that her furniture-less days are over.

"She going to have a kitchen table, and a couch, and whatever else the [expletive] she wants," White said.

Also, Henderson and Machida are UFC veterans whose payouts are decided by their contracts well in advance of their fights. Rousey and Carmouche were the main event because the UFC standard is to put the championship fight as the main event. Henderson and Machida taking home more listed money is akin to Mike Trout making $480,000 and Vernon Wells making $21 million for the Los Angeles Angels. Trout finished second in American League MVP voting but makes much less because he's a rookie and not a veteran like Wells.

To use another example, San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick made much less money than backup Alex Smith. Kaepernick will eventually get paid as his star blossoms but it doesn't change the paycheck he took home from the Super Bowl.

Three questions that will be answered by UFC on Fuel 7

The UFC brings a title fight -- kinda -- to Fuel TV on Saturday night. Though Comcast and Fox's networks did reach a deal to bring Fuel to its subscribers, the channel won't yet be available for this weekend's bouts and the interesting card in England. No matter who tunes in, here are the intriguing questions around this weekend's bouts.

Is welterweight a better UFC fit for Jorge Santiago? Despite a long and successful career in Sengoku and Strikeforce, his last stint with the UFC didn't go so well. Santiago lost to Demian Maia and Brian Stann. After a first-round knockout in the Titan Fighting Championships, Santiago is back as a welterweight. He'll take on undefeated phenom Gunnar Nelson.

Are Cub Swanson or Dustin Poirier ready for the title shot? Though the UFC's featherweight division is top-heavy and a fight is set between champion Jose Aldo and Anthony Pettis, Swanson and Poirier's bout will show if there is another worthy contender. Swanson, who lost to Aldo in the WEC, wants to be part of the conversation:

?I just want people to mention me up there. I don?t care if I get in next. I?m just concentrating on this fight. But just mention my damn name when you mention the people who deserve it. That?s all I want.?

Poirier lost to Chan Sung Jung in May, then beat Jonathan Brookins in December. He took the fight with Swanson as a late replacement for Dennis Siver, and is hoping a win puts him closer to a title fight.

"The truth is, if I go out there and beat Cub Swanson, I'll be right there at the title if not maybe one more fight away," Poirier said.

Saturday's fight will show if one of these men belong in the discussion.

What is the value of an interim belt? Perhaps this question is a bit too philosophical for a fight preview, but it's worth asking as Renan Barao attempts to defend his interim bantamweight belt against Michael McDonald. Barao won the belt last summer because champion Dominick Cruz has been out for an extended time as his knee heals. But with Cruz waiting in the wings, does this belt have the same oomph as the one Cruz is holding? It feels like whoever wins this fight won't so much be the champion as the no. 1 contender for Cruz's return. Regardless of the accessory handed out at the end of the fight, the two should put on a fight worth watching.

Will you be tuning in? Don't forget these are daytime fights. The Facebook preliminaries are at 12:15 ET, and the main card on Fuel is at 3 p.m. ET.

Lyoto Machida pulls out split-decision win over Dan Henderson at UFC 157

ANAHEIM, Calif. -- Lyoto Machida took a split decision over Dan Henderson in the co-main event at UFC 157 on Saturday. The judges saw it 29-28, 28-29, 29-28 for Machida.

Machida was elusive as usual in the first round, but Henderson was able to sneak in and land a few kicks and punches. At the end of the round, Machida took Henderson down with a leg trip and landed strikes.

The second round showed Machida still being elusive and keeping his distance from Henderson. Machida tried for a front kick several times, but couldn't land it. Meanwhile, Henderson couldn't land much.

[Also: Ronda Rousey survives UFC debut, wins via first-round arm bar]

Henderson is known for his big, overhand punches. Most of the time, when he throws it, it can mean the end of a fight. However, he had trouble getting close enough to Machida for the overhand to work.

In the third round, Machida moved in for a takedown but ended up with Henderson on top. Henderson used elbows from the top, but Machida was able to get out with less than two minutes left in the fight.

Before the fight, UFC president Dana White said that the winner of this bout will get the next title shot. UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones will put the title up against Chael Sonnen in April, but the next fight will likely go to Machida.

[Also: Josh Koscheck suffers upset loss]

Machida was once the UFC light heavyweight champion, but lost the title to Rua in 2010. Since then, he has wins over Randy Couture and Ryan Bader, but losses to current champion Jon Jones and Quinton Jackson. It will be his third chance at the light heavyweight title. He won it with a knockout of Rashad Evans in 2009, but lost to Jones in 2011.

Henderson had a long layoff between fights. His last bout was one of the best in MMA history. In November of 2011, Henderson defeated Mauricio Rua in a five-round decision. Since then, Henderson had a fight lined up with Jones in September, but had to pull out at the last minute because of a knee injury. His record falls to 29-9. He's 42 years old, and against Machida, looked slow and old for the first time in his career.
