Ronda Rousey's main advantage is confidence, says Bethe Correia

Bethe Correia believes that, sometimes, confidence is more important than physical ability. Take, for example, UFC bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey.

The Brazilian Correia is now 2-0 in the UFC's bantamweight division and will fight Rousey's friend and teammate Shayna Baszler Saturday at UFC 177. Though Correia respects Rousey's skills, she believes that the reason the "Rowdy" one has been able to dominate in MMA thus far is because she's simply more confident than her opponents.

"It?s not that she?s better than the opponents she?s fought, but they don?t believe in themselves," she said in a recent interview with Guilherme Cruz.

"Her look shows it. They don?t feel they are better than Ronda. Ronda has this aura that she?s unbeatable. She needs to face someone that looks into her eyes and says ?you can?t beat me.?"

Correia, of course, believes that she is one such fighter. She plans to beat Baszler and then wants a title shot against Rousey.

"I think they lack of confidence...Ronda believes in herself, and the others get in there afraid of her. I?m not. I?m not afraid of her," she continued.

"I think I deserve a title shot. I will be 3-0 in the UFC with another win. That?s my dream and that?s what I?m fighting for. Let them decide. If they think I deserve it, I will honor this chance and do a great show."

Correia says she won't wilt under pressure and is in the UFC for just one thing - gold. "I?m not in the UFC to be just another fighter," she explained.

"I will get to the title one way or the other...I want a title shot and I will get there by talking or fighting - or both. I want the title and nobody can stop me."

UFC's Wanderlei Silva confident he won't be punished

Despite running from a drug test, lying about it and then admitting to using banned substances, UFC fighter Wanderlei Silva is confident that he'll be the next fighter to go un-punished by the Nevada Athletic Commission for drug test irregularities. Vitor Belfort was recently essentially allowed to regulate himself when he failed a drug test earlier this year (his second in Nevada), removed himself from a title fight, attempted to cover up the drug test until a Yahoo! Sports report revealed that the test results were soon to be released, then re-applied for a license and was granted one with ease and then handed a title shot by the UFC.

So, it may not be too surprising that Silva also has confidence that he'll go unpunished by the world's top fight regulator when he gets his next hearing August 21. In a recent interview, Silva seemed to be alluding to a possible defense that the NAC did not, or does not have jurisdiction over him because he is not currently licensed and was not when they attempted to test him in May.

"I?m already preparing my defense," Silva told said.

"There?s not much to be done, there?s no legislation over me. I don?t have a license and I?m not committed to fight in any event at the moment. I will do my defense and, as soon as I have [a fight] coming up, I will do the test and prove that I?m clean to get my license."

Of course, when Silva did run from the test, he had a well-publicized fight scheduled with Chael Sonnen in Nevada and was undoubtedly set to apply for a license with the commission. So, they were well within their rights and responsibilities to test the Brazilian.

Of course, there's no telling what will happen with Silva's case, with Nevada's erratic and hidden decision-making process, of late. So, the "Axe-Murderer" is free, for now, to continue to make dillusional-sounding plans.

"I want to fight in December, at the end of the year," he announced.

"They always do big events at the end of the year, and this fight could happen anywhere. I will be ready. I would like to fight in Brazil, but we can fight in Japan or even in the United States. But if it really is against Dan Henderson, I would like it to be in a soccer stadium in Brazil."

A fighter can dream, can't he? And, fight fans can certainly then groan.

Eddie Alvarez agrees to new deal, to meet Donald Cerrone at UFC 178

Eddie Alvarez has longbelieved he's the best fighter in the world. Now, the former Bellator lightweightchampion is going to get the opportunity to prove it.

A whirlwind day ended for Alvarez Tuesday with a series of interviews, after he agreed to a new UFC contract and will face Donald Cerrone in the first bout of his new deal at UFC 178 at the MGM Grand Garden on Sept. 27.

Alvarez had been in a protracted legal dispute with Bellator and had sued to get out of his deal. But Alvarez settled and came back to fight one fight final, a rematch for the lightweight title against Michael Chandler last year. Alvarez won that bout to win the titlein a sensational battle after he'd lost to Chandler in an epic match in 2011.

He was at odds with Bellator CEO Bjorn Rebney, but when Rebney was let go in June and replaced by Scott Coker, things kicked into motion. Coker on Tuesday morning announced Bellator had released Alvarez from his deal, making him a free agent.

A few hours later, he'd agreed to a new deal with the UFC and what should be the hotly anticipated fight with Cerrone.

"This is going to be an extremely fan friendly fight," he said of his bout with Cerrone. "How can it not be? You have two guys with the some of the highest finish ratios in all of the sport. You know people are going to love this fight. How can they not? These kinds of fights, these big fights that get everyone talking and interested, these are the fights I want. I want to fight only dangerous guys. Whenever I've done that in my career, I'vestepped up and risen to the challenge."

Alvarez, 30, is 25-3. He's long sought the kind of stage the UFC will provide.

Alvarez is rated fourth at lightweight by Sherdog and fifth by MMA Junkie. He wasn't eligible for the UFC rankings because the UFC's rankings, voted on by media members, are only open to UFC contracted fighters.

The fight with Cerrone will give him the opportunity to prove his contention that he's the best in the world.

"I want to prove the naysayers wrong," Alvarez said. "They're everywhere. And to be honest with you, they're all I see and they're what motivates me. I have a tremendous support from a lot of the Underground fans. They believe in me, they want to see me do well and they're behind me. But there are a lot of people out there who don't believe it, and so I want to separate perception and reality. I want to be able to do that.

"What they perceive is not real. I'm the No. 1 fighter in the world and they're going to see that very soon."

Below is the full first fight between Alvarez and Chandler from 2011 that many thought was that year's Fight of the Year.
