Dana White: ?This is the fight business, not the friend business.?

When the MMA community discusses the name Greg Jackson it?s usually in relation to the coach?s reputation as one of the top trainers/corners in the sport. However, one word UFC President Dana White associates with Jackson that few others consider in relation to the sought-after sensei is ?businessman?. White recently gave his thoughts on Jackson?s [...]

Shinya Aoki willing to break bones in Bellator 66 bout to prove point against Eddie Alvarez

It could be argued that the second-best bout taking place this weekend is not on the UFC 145 card but rather at Bellator 66 where Japanese submission-specialist Shinya Aoki takes on former lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez. The fight marks Aoki?s return to the United States after a year away, picking up a trio of dominating [...]

Hockey Fight of the Day: Kris Letang vs. Kimmo Timonen

There may be an official statistic out there showing otherwise but it seems there are as many hockey fights involving a player coming to a teammate’s defense as much as those where a player is simply sticking up for himself. Report: Frank Trigg out at HD Net because of abuse and affair

Former UFC fighter Frank Trigg was a popular commentator for several MMA promotions on HDNet, so his absence from their broadcasts was surprising. The gossip website "The Dirty" reports his dismissal was not for business reasons.

MMA fighter Frank Trigg choked out his wife in front of his children on October 17th, 2011. They are now going through a VERY messy divorce and the children who saw the carnage are right in the middle of it. He no longer is employed at HDnet because he was sleeping with a co-worker, assistant producer, 23 year old Amy Vaughn. The company does not approve of the affair and abuse that they were made aware of soon after the incident and have chosen not to utilize his services as a commentator anymore.

HDNet did not respond to requests for comment. Trigg said he does not comment on personal business.

Trigg was 21-9 as a fighter and had a memorable loss to Matt Hughes. He fought in the UFC, Pride, Rumble on the Rock and BAMMA.

Michael Chiesa continues march to honor late father on ?The Ultimate Fighter?

Michael Chiesa is one of those rare individuals who had one of the most private, personal and emotional moments of his life played out on national television.

Chiesa was one of 32 mixed martial arts fighters chosen to appear on the first episode of Season 15 of theUFC's reality series, "The Ultimate Fighter." On March 9 at the UFC Training Center in Las Vegas, those 32 men would fight for 16 spots as cast members.

When Chiesa left his home in Spokane, Wash., a few days earlier, he did so knowing that itmight be the final time he ever saw his father, Mark. The 52-year-old Mark Chiesa was fighting a losing battle with leukemia.

Michael Chiesa submitted Johnavan Vistante with a rear naked choke on March 9. When Vistante tapped, Chiesa leaped to his feet in jubilation, raced toward a camera and shouted, "That was for you, Dad!" In Spokane, his dying father gave a thumbs up and then smiled.

A few hours later, he died. Michael Chiesa flew home -- for barely 24 hours -- to pay his respects. He's been back in Las Vegas since and, tonight, will get his first chance to fight when he meets Jeremy Larsen of Team Cruz.

"I feel very good about the matchup," said Chiesa, the fifth-round pick of Team Faber. "Larsen is a tough guy and I realize that. I'm looking to be the better fighter in all aspects and come out with a finish."

He said that having to break camp, even temporarily, didn't impact him. Once the fighters make the show, they're not allowed any contact with the outside world for the duration. They have no television, no Internet, no newspapers and they normally aren't allowed to leave the house where their every move is filmed. In Chiesa's case, UFC president Dana White made an exception to allow him to fly home to Spokane, Wash., to allow him to attend a service for his father.

Chiesa said leaving didn't put him behind the other fighters. Team Faber coach Urijah Faber said that if Daron Cruickshank had won the first week, he would have picked the Chiesa-Larsen matchup for Week 2.

"Chiesa is ready and he's a very hungry guy," Faber said. "He's highly motivated and I love this matchup for him. I think he has a big edge in grappling."

Chiesa said he'll fight as he always does and work to finish the fight. He noted that Larsen is resilient and was able to withstand several bad positions in his qualifying fight to get into the house.

"He's shown he can weather the storm, so I have to be aware of that, but I will go for the finish like I always have," Chiesa said. "If you look at my fights, you see I finish a lot. It's just how I like to go and I'm always looking for a way to end it."

Bellator champ Ben Askren not changing his style to suit fans? demands

Unbeaten welterweight Ben Askren has a message for his critics – if you don?t like the way he fights, change the channel or get used to it. Weekend warriors: Ben Askren keeps title and Michael Chiesa moves on

Your Monday morning rundown of the weekend's MMA action:

Perhaps it wasn't the most exciting championship defense in MMA history, but Ben Askren got the job done on Friday as he defended the Bellator welterweight belt against Douglas Lima with a decision. Askren's wrestling once again took center stage as he took down and controlled Lima in round after round. Though Lima tried to sweep Askren and use submissions to create offense, Askren had no problem fending off every sub attempt.

After the fight, Askren had a message for the fans who booed his ground-heavy style.

"I was told you Canadians like fighting," he said. "If you don't like the ground work, there's a sport they call boxing. It's not as fun, though. I suggest you keep coming here and watching my [expletive] whippings."

In other Bellator action, Marlon Sandro moved to the final of the featherweight tournament with a close decision over Alexandre "Popo" Bezerra. Popo never found a rhythm as Sandro landed more punches when they did engage each other.

In the opening round of the bantamweight tournament, Travis Marx moved on with an upset decision over Makatsu Ueda. Hiroshi Nakamura also moved on in a decision win, holding off Rodigo Lima's leglock attempts throughout the bout.

Chiesa takes decision

On "The Ultimate Fighter," Michael Chiesa moved to the next round with a two-round decision over Jeremy Larsen. Chiesa used his significant reach advantage to move inside and score takedowns. In the final minute of the second round, Chiesa came close to getting a choke. That submission attempt was likely enough to give Chiesa the win.

Next week's bout will feature Joe Proctor from Team Faber against Team Cruz's Chris Tickle who battled health problems over the course of the week.

Knockout of the week: Michael McDonald takes out Alex Soto

The good news for Miguel Torres? At UFC 145, he will have his first fight since getting cut, then rehired by the UFC. The bad news? It's against Michael McDonald, a bantamweight barely old enough to buy beer in the U.S. McDonald is on a seven-bout winning streak, and in his last fight, he did this:

Torres is one of the most experienced bantamweights in the UFC. At 31, he has 44 fights under his belt. The former WEC champ is 2-1 in the UFC, with the loss coming in a tight decision to Demetrious Johnson.

McDonald is a tough up-and-comer, while Torres is an established power at 135 lbs. Who will take this fight? Speak your mind in the comments, on Facebook or on Twitter.
