Jordan Mein gets to put smiley face on his list of fighters after UFC 158 win
Jordan Mein had an excellent UFC debut on Saturday night. In one round, he knocked out Dan Miller, who had never been knocked out before. Now he gets to put a smiley face next to Miller's name on the list he keeps.
"I wrote down every single welterweight in the UFC," Mein said to MMA Junkie. "You've got to know who you're going to fight. You've got to have goals set in mind. You've got to know what's up, what's next. I look at that list every day. Dan Miller was in there. I look at his name and I'm like, OK, I'm ready. I've got to train every day, look at it when you wake up every day."
Do you think Mein uses stickers or markers for the smiley face? Does he put a gold star when he finishes the fight? Jokes aside, Mein isn't the only fighter who is known to put his goals in writing. UFC bantamweight Urijah Faber is known to keep his goals on the wall in his bedroom, so he is looking at them every morning.
It's going to be fun to watch how Mein tackles the rest of the names. Though he's just 23, he's put together a record of 27-8. He has both youth and experience on his side.

Georges St-Pierre cast in the next ?Captain America?
The last time we saw UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre, he was defending his belt against Nick Diaz at UFC 158. But now you'll get to see him outside the cage, as he was just cast in "Captain America: The Winter Soldier." GSP will play Batroc the Leaper, a French mercenary and kickboxer with a penchant for kicking Captain America.

GSP is the perfect fit. He's French-Canadian, and French was his first language. As for the kicking:
It doesn't look like he'll have to do much research to figure that part of the character out.

Double-knockout from amateur fights in California (Video)
At Galaxy Fight Night IV, an amateur MMA event in northern California, Brandon Alexander and Aaron Britt treated the fans to the rare MMA treat of a fast double-knockout. As the video above shows, the fighter introductions last longer than the fight itself. Seconds after squaring off, they both threw the same hook that landed on each other's button. Then, in a mirror image, both fighters fell to the ground. They both got back up.
These results are more likely in the amateur ranks as fighters are still learning how to defend themselves while throwing punches. You can bet that both Alexander and Britt will remember to keep their hands up in their next fight. They learned the hard way.

Pat Curran, Uriah Hall, and fight-ruining cuts: Where do they fall on Cagewriter?s Hot or Not list?
Leading into UFC on Fuel and Invicta, it's been a drama-filled week of MMA. What was hot and what wasn't?
Hot ? Pat Curran: Bellator's featherweight champion held onto his belt on Thursday night with a first-round submission of Shabhulat Shamhalaev. It's been two years since his last loss. Since then, he has six wins, including two title defenses.
Not ? Practical jokes: When Alexander Gustafsson's status for Saturday's fight was still uncertain, Wanderlei Silva tweeted that he was in for Gustafsson against Gegard Mousasi. He even told media members privately that he was fighting. But the next day he revealed it was an "April Fool's Day" joke. A joke, or a lie?
Hot ? Uriah Hall: When he knocked out Adam Cella in the first round of "The Ultimate Fighter," it was hailed as the nastiest knockout ever on TUF. Then Hall went and topped it. He knocked out Bubba McDaniel in a vicious, nine-second bout that ended with McDaniel asking what happened, and UFC president Dana White wondering if it was right to applaud Hall's performance.
Not ? Fight-ruining cuts: What was worse ? Gustafsson getting cut a week before his fight with Mousasi, or the will-he-or-won't-he drama leading up the the Swedish MMA Federation's medical committee deciding that he couldn't fight? Or was the worst part that they made that decision days before the weigh-in when they could have given the cut more time to heal? It's a bad deal all around.
Still taking temperature ? Ilir Latifi: Gustafsson's training partner has the opportunity of his life as he steps in on Saturday to fight Mousasi in the main event of UFC on Fuel 9. He can make his UFC debut very memorable, but will it be good or bad for him.

Canadian Football League star Chad Owens to make MMA debut
Football players training in MMA is nothing new. NFLers including Aldon Smith, Jared Allen and Arthur Jones train with some of the sport's best fighters in the off-season.
Former players have gotten into MMA, as well. Herschel Walker had a storied career on the football field before he started with Strikeforce. Matt Mitrione played for several NFL teams before becoming a heavyweight in the UFC.
But a current pro football player in a fight? That's different. Chad Owens, who won the Canadian Football League's Most Outstanding Player last season and whose team won the Grey Cup, is debuting in a fight in Hawaii on Apr. 6. He will fight Junyva Tevaga at Destiny: Na Koa III, in the bout that is both men's MMA debut.
According to Owens, he's looking for a new challenge.
"I wanted to get into something new. A new challenge. Something to keep me hungry. I always wanted to get into it sometime and this off season I thought would be the perfect time," Owens said to Hawaii News Now.
According to the Toronto Star, Owens is not in danger of breaching his contract with the fight. Still, do you think it's a risk worth taking? Speak up in the comments, on Facebook or on Twitter.

Watch Anderson Silva visit a wheelchair-bound boy, try not to cry (Video)
You may want to get the tissues handy for this one. UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva heard about Joao Pedro, an active young man who is suffering with a disease of his legs. Joao Pedro has been in a wheelchair for the last nine months, and Silva is his idol. Watch what happens when Silva drops in on Joao Pedro and gives the young man not just a bunch of gear and goodies, but some heartfelt words. It doesn't matter that the words are in Portuguese. You can sense the feelings behind them.

The UFC?s pool of bantamweight talent is fairly deep but, like all divisions, there are only a handful of elite competitors who swim with the sharks. Georges St-Pierre snaps back at Nick Diaz calling him ?pampered? in UFC 158 call
When Chael Sonnen and Anderson Silva were promoting their fight last year, there was a conference call when Silva stopped being the nice guy. After listening to Sonnen rip Silva and talk about how he was going to win for months, Silva snapped. As he had not done previously, Silva talked about the many ways he was going to beat up Sonnen.
Welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre has finally had his Silva Snap Moment. On the UFC 158 press call, Nick Diaz talked about how pampered GSP is.
"I work hard regardless, through this [expletive], but I don?t have people toweling me off and handing me water bottles left and right, and getting my training paid for me," Diaz said. "I?ve got to do all that [expletive] on my own, and every day I know it, and that?s why I know I have to go that much harder, and concentrate, and do that much more, because I don?t have people taking care of my money or financial tax obligations, or what have you ? I?m too busy fighting all your fights, I?m too busy entertaining all the fans.?
Like Diaz, GSP started from humble beginnings. He's been fighting since 2002, and has lost just twice. GSP is usually pretty bland in his pre-fight interviews, but balked at the idea he was handed his success.
"Let me tell you something, uneducated fool. Listen to me. I have not always been rich. I start from the bottom. I made myself, I work very hard to be where I am right now. I know you don?t believe this, because you didn?t succeed yet, and maybe you will never succeed in your life because I don?t think you?re smart enough to understand how you should do to reach that point,? St-Pierre said.
Yiiiikes. With the two fighting next weekend at UFC 158 in Montreal, there will likely be a few more unkind words said to one another. We have that to look forward to, as well as a really fun title fight on Mar. 16.

UFC 158: Georges St-Pierre keeps belt, Johny Hendricks wins impressively, and more
UFC 158 in Montreal featured a huge knockout, a disappointing if unsurprising title bout, and a few snoozers on the main card. Complete results:
Georges St-Pierre def. Nick Diaz via unanimous decision (50-45, 50-45, 50-45): After Diaz asked for the fight with GSP for years, he came out flat against the champion. Diaz couldn't stop GSP's takedowns, and was controlled for the entire bout. When they were on their feet, GSP landed jabs at will. Diaz never found his rhythm.
Johny Hendricks def. Carlos Condit via unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28): Hendricks knew he had to get an exciting win to not just beat Condit, but to impress the UFC enough to get a title shot. He did it with a thrilling, back and forth fight that had Hendricks throw everything but the kitchen sink at Condit, who somehow withstood all the striking. Hendricks also used takedowns to neutralize Condit.
After the fight, Hendricks asked for a title shot against George St-Pierre. He even offered to fly to GSP's house and hire a ref for their bout. It's Hendricks' sixth win in a row. The fight was also good enough to win $50,000 Fight of the Night bonuses for each fighter.
Jake Ellenberger def. Nate Marquardt via KO (strikes) - Round 1, 3:00: This fight helped make UFC 158 its pay-per-view price. Ellenberger moved in as Marquardt tried to throw a kick, and Ellenberger landed a big left-right combo that sent Marquardt to the ground. He then followed up on the ground until the fight was stopped. Though Marquardt protested the stoppage, replays showed he was out face-first on the canvas. The knockout earned Ellenberger a $50,000 Knockout of the Night bonus.
Chris Camozzi def. Nick Ring via split decision (29-28, 28-29, 29-28): As you tuned into this fight, did you wonder why it was put on the pay-per-view? You're not alone. They both had trouble getting after each other enough to land strikes.
Mike Ricci def. Colin Fletcher via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27): The two "The Ultimate Fighter" runners-up put on a fight that didn't exactly create excitement for fighters found on the reality show. They both dragged each other down and didn't create much offense.
Patrick Cote def. Bobby Voelker via unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28): Cote started strong on the way to his close win over Strikeforce product Voelker, but had trouble defending Voelker's takedowns and strikes late in the fight.
Darren Elkins def. Antonio Carvalho via TKO (punches) - Round 1, 3:06: This is one of those fights that will cause MMA fans to shake their heads. Elkins weakened Carvalho with a left hook, but after Carvalho stummbled, refereee Yves Levigne stopped the fight. Carvalho protested, but there was nothing that could be done.
Jordan Mein def. Dan Miller via TKO (strikes) - Round 1, 4:42: Count Jordan Mein as one of the Strikeforce fighters who has made a big, exciting debut in the UFC. After nearly getting caught in an armbar, he knocked out Miller, who had previously never been knocked out.
John Makdessi def. Daron Cruickshank via unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28): Makdessi took a tight but fun bout over Cruickshank, who started the fight well by landing several leg kicks. But Makdessi came back in the later rounds with his patented spinning kicks. Cruickshank returned the favor with plenty of big kicks, and the fight easily could have gone in either direction.
Rick Story def. Quinn Mulhern via TKO (strikes) - Round 1, 3:05: Story gave Strikeforce product Mulhern a rude welcome to the UFC. Story took advantage of Mulhern by knocking him to the canvas and following with strikes until the fight was stopped.
T.J. Dillashaw def. Issei Tamura via KO (strikes) - Round 2, 0:26: In the second round, Dillashaw landed a huge knee and dropped Tamura. He followed up with strikes until the fight was stopped.
George Roop def. Reuben Duran via unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 30-27)
The biggest moments from ?The Ultimate Fighter?
This week on "The Ultimate Fighter," the fight was only one of the many challenges that came up throughout the show for the fighters and coaches Chael Sonnen and Jon Jones.
Coaches Challenge! Best part of the season, says Dana White and me. $10K to winning coach, $1500 to each of his fighters. This year, it's an obstacle course using excavators and an obstacle course and who cares what the object of the game is. It's hilarious and awesome. Sonnen used the headphones to talk smack, and the race turns into a back-and-forth battle between the two and their steam shovels. Sonnen took an early lead, and then came back to win it all. He now won the bowling challenge and the coaches challenge.
Zak Cummings (Team Sonnen) vs. Dylan Andrews (Team Jones)
In the first round, Cummings got a great start. He controlled Andrews from the top, dropping elbows and causing Andrews to bleed. But Andrews got out from under Cummings, and ended the round landing more shots. The second round was more obviously Andrews.' Cummings started the round aggressively, throwing a crazy kick that caused Andrews to smile and give Cummings a high five. Cummings then threw a knee, that Andrews turned into a takedown. He then controlled the rest of the round and won by majority decision.
Wildcard decisions: The UFC brought back the wildcards this year, which allows fighters who lost in the first round a second chance. This time around, UFC president Dana White put the decision on the coaches. For Sonnen, it's easy. He picks Kevin Casey.
But Jones' decision was much more difficult, as his no. 1 pick, Clint Hester, lost last week. He has to choose between Hester, who has so much potential, and Bubba McDaniel, who is one of Jones' training partners outside of the show. He chooses McDaniel, who will face Casey in next week's episode.
