With other competitors on the Fuel TV card including Frenchmen, a Brit, and a handful of Swedes the show is starting to look like a [...]

Papy Abedi vs. James Head Slated for UFC's Debut in Sweden

Papy Abedi is scheduled to meet James Head in a welterweight bout at the UFC's debut in Sweden on April 14, MMAFighting.com has confirmed with sources close to the fight.

Abedi's involvement on the card is an obvious one, considering he currently fights out of Stockholm, Sweden. Abedi grew up in the Democratic Republic of Congo, France and Belgium before moving to Sweden in 1997. The 33-year-old lost his Octagon debut to Thiago Alves via first-round rear-naked choke at UFC 138 in November. The loss marked Abedi's first in nine professional MMA bouts (8-1).

The fight will mark Head's first at 170 pounds since signing with the UFC last year. The 7-2 Head dropped his Octagon debut to Nick Ring at UFC 131. He was supposed to fight John Maguire at UFC 138 but an injury forced him to pull out of the bout.

The card, which will air on FUEL TV, will take place at the Ericsson Globe Arena in Stockholm, Sweden. The rest of the card has yet to be announced, but Swedish fighter Alexander Gustafsson, who defeated Vladimir Matyushenko at UFC 141, has publicly stated that he would love to fight in his home country.

Lyoto Machida Undergoes Successful Surgery, Calls Out Chael Sonnen

Lyoto Machida recently had successful left elbow surgery, and moments after the procedure, he took to Twitter to lay down a challenge to the loquacious Chael Sonnen.

"Chael Sonnen, I just had surgery but I can still give you your present in the octagon with just one arm. All you have to do is accept," he wrote.

Machida, who is coming off a light heavyweight title loss to Jon Jones at UFC 140, perhaps saw or heard about Sonnen's recent remarks on a FUEL TV promo clip. It was part of the "UFC Tonight" show that airs Tuesday night at 10 p.m. ET, suggesting some mouthwash for the former light heavyweight champion, who drinks his first urine of the day. If not, he may have heard one of the other countless shots Sonnen has taken about him or his country mates over the past couple of years.

Machida's response is notable because, in the past, Sonnen's Brazilian targets, most notably Anderson Silva, have chosen to ignore his remarks or simply take the high road when asked about them.

Of course, Sonnen dismissed Machida's challenge in classic "Chael P. Sonnen" style.

"I don't have time for 'pee pee' mouth," he tweeted. "All the time I can spare him is enough to cold cock him and walk away."

As for the elbow surgery, Machida's second, "The Dragon" wrote that it "went very well."

Sonnen returns to action on Jan. 28 against Mark Munoz. A win would earn him a rematch against the middleweight champion Silva.

Alexander Gustafsson scores first knockout of the night at UFC 141

Alexander Gustafsson scores first knockout of the night at UFC 141

After a night of decisions, Alexander Gustafsson scored a first-round knockout of MMA veteran Vladimir Matyushenko at UFC 141 on Friday night.

Matyushenko moved in to throw a strike, and ran right into Gustafsson's jab. He was stunned and fell to the ground. Gustafsson threw strikes until the bout was stopped at 2:13.

"I was prepared for three hard rounds, and Matyushenko is a tough guy, but I got the knockout," Gustaffson said after the bout. "It was a good punch. It was my day today."

Gustafsson has been on a tear since losing to Phil Davis early in 2010. He has four straight wins and a record of 13-1, proving himself as a prospect to watch in the UFC's light heavyweight division.

Jacob Volkmann takes on President Obama again at UFC 141

Jacob Volkmann takes on President Obama again at UFC 141

LAS VEGAS - The last time Jacob Volkmann tried to make a political statement about the President it resulted in some uncomfortable times for the UFC fighter.

Apparently, Volkmann is a glutton for punishment or simply wants to exercise his right to speak freely because he fanned the flames again tonight at UFC 141.

After his victory over Efrain Escudero, Volkmann asked UFC analyst Joe Rogan if he could say two things.

The first was an attempt to call out the UFC lightweight champion.

"Frankie [Edgar], work on your takedown defense. I'm comin' and I'm taking you down," said Volkmann.

Next he turned his attention to President Barack Obama.

"Obama needs a glassectomy. Ask me what a glassectomy is, Joe," said Volkmann.

Rogan obliged.

"It's where they remove the belly button and put a piece of glass in there so you can see what you're doing while your head's up your [expletive]," said Volkmann.

Rogan gave the fighter a strange look and the quip went over like a lead balloon with the crowd in attendance at the MGM Grand Garden Arena.

[ Related: Lesnar's retirement blindsides White ]

In a postfight interview, Volkmann explained why he took on the President again.

"The whole thing is a joke. He's a joke of a President and I'm just trying to get the point across that his decisions are based on ... it's not based on facts, it's based on who pays him the most money ... it seems like. He's not thinking things through enough," said Volkmann.

Volkmann got some national attention following UFC 125 when he ripped Obama during a postfight interview (2:54 mark). Volkmann told AOL Fanhouse that he wanted his next fight to be against the President. He also called him an "idiot." To no one's surprise, Volkmann got a visit from the Secret Service just two days later. He was also reprimanded by the high school where he serves as an assistant wrestling coach. Volkmann got two weeks paid leave from his job.

The worst came from a brief television appearance on "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno."

"The hardest thing was the death threats and the emails and the calls, and my wife ... she was crying pretty hard," Volkmann said.

He's not worried anymore about any backlash.

"I think that's over. Nobody cares [anymore], really. Who really cares, to be honest? I'm stating my opinion. Everyone's entitled to their opinion," said Volkmann.

Chael Sonnen unimaginatively takes shot at Chicago Cubs

When touting UFC on Fox 2, Chael Sonnen took a shot at the Chicago Cubs, a team who plays 5.5 miles away from the United Center, where Sonnen will fight Mark Munoz. (He takes the shot at the very beginning of the video.)

What disappoints me about that is it's lack of imagination. Using the Cubs as a punching bag is for amateurs, and Sonnen is a highly regarded professional in the world of trash talk. Dana White called him the Muhammad Ali of MMA for his ability to sell a fight. Ali would never go for such an obvious joke.

C'mon, Chael. Do your research. Learn my city, and make better jokes than that.

Thanks to Chicago's MMA.
