It looks like Bellator has decided to change the company?s policy regarding the treatment of champions after a slew of slip-ups left the titles in question a bit tarnished. Specifically, Bellator will no longer allow divisional kings to compete in other promotions or subject them to bouts against opponents other than top contenders. Two of…
The post Bjorn Rebney: ?Super fights and fights outside of the organization are a thing of the past.? appeared first on Fighters.com.
We have very few days left in 2012. Before the calendar changes to 2013, let's take a look back at the year in MMA and the biggest stories that shaped the world of cagefighting.
10. Bellator, Invicta, World Series of Fighting all showed the MMA landscape is biger than just the UFC -- Though the UFC is the biggest, they're not the only high level MMA promotion. Bellator finished the year out strong as they anticipate a move to Spike in 2013. World Series of Fighting made its debut on NBC Sports, and Invicta's all-female promotion earned respect with two shows this year.
9. Brock Lesnar, Kenny Florian, Mark Hominick and Stephan Bonnar said goodbye to MMA: After losing to Alistair Overeem late in '11, Lesnar hung up his gigantic gloves. Back issues forced Florian to quit fighting, but he still has an active role in the sport as a commentator for FX. Fan favorites Hominick and Bonnar also retired. Bonnar's came after a fight Anderson Silva ended in a loss and a suspension for a banned substance.
8. GSP's return -- UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre tore his ACL in October of '11. He finally returned to the cage in November this year, beating Carlos Condit in a bloody decision.
7. MMA stymied in New York ... again -- Though MMA was legalized in Vermont, the sport remains out-of-bounds in the Empire State. Dreams of a UFC pay-per-view in Madison Square Garden will have to remain dreams for another year as the bill to legalize the sport failed to reach the floor for a vote.
6. Jon Jones arrested for DWI -- In May, UFC light heavyweight champion Jones was arrested after he crashed his Bentley into a pole in Broome County, N.Y. He later pleaded guilty, paid a fine, and had his driver's license suspended. Jones' popularity took a hit with this incident.
5. Suspensions for Alistair Overeem and Nick Diaz: It wasn't a great year for former Strikeforce champs. Overeem was slated to fight Junior dos Santos for the UFC heavyweight championship in May, but was suspended when his testosterone levels were out of whack. Diaz was also suspended when he tested positive for marijuana metabolites.
4. Strikeforce's demise -- The Zuffa-owned, Showtime-aired promotion canceled two shows this fall after injuries hurt their drawing power. Ronda Rousey, their bantamweight champion and one of their biggest draws, was named the UFC champ, and other Strikeforce fighters were given UFC bouts. Finally, the promotion confirmed their January event will be their last.
3. UFC cancels an event -- A week and a half before UFC 151, Dan Henderson pulled out of his main event, title fight with Jones. The UFC offered Jones a bout with Chael Sonnen, which Jones turned down. (They will fight in April after coaching on "The Ultimate Fighter.") The UFC decided to cancel UFC 151, making it the first time they had made such a move.
2. Ronda Rousey to the UFC -- It was a pretty good year for the Olympic judo medalist turned fighter. Rousey won the Strikeforce bantamweight championship and defended it, and appeared on the cover of ESPN the Magazine's "Body Issue." But her biggest landmark came late in 2012, when she was named the UFC's first female fighter. She'll defend the UFC's women's bantamweight championship in February.
1. Injuries, injuries, injuries -- As you may have noticed while reading this list, more than anything else, injuries made a mark on the MMA landscape. Time and time again, UFC cards were rewritten as injuries affected champs Jose Aldo, Dominick Cruz, Georges St-Pierre and stars Vitor Belfort, Cung Le, Henderson and Frank Mir, among others. Strikeforce canceled two events because of injuries. Injury announcements became the norm.

Do you want to own your favorite fighter's sports bra without committing a felony and support a worthy cause? Good news. Some of your favorite female fighters are auctioning off signed sports bras and rash guards to help fight breast cancer.
Ronda Rousey, Felice Herrig, Liz Carmouche and Julie Kedize are among the fighters who have handed over their sports bras for an eBay auction. Rosie Sexton gave her top and shorts. Proceeds will go to Keep A Breast, a nonprofit organization dedicated to eradicating breast cancer for future generations.
As of this writing, UFC women's bantamweight champion Rousey has the highest bid. It's going for $340, plus shipping. The bra that belonged to Bec Hyatt, who will fight for Invicta's straw weight title on Saturday, is up to $330. Check it out, and help a good cause.
Fans of WEC no doubt remember Javier Vazquez, an exciting featherweight who picked up wins over Mackens Semerzier and Jens Pulver before coming over to the UFC where he beat Joe Stevenson. However, Vazquez hasn?t been seen since, and now the world knows why. Vazquez recently revealed he decided to hang his gloves up and…

Bellator champion Zoila Gurgel lost by technical submission in a non-title fight to Jessica Eye over the weekend. It was an impressive showing by Eye, who is 9-1.
A standing arm triangle isn't a submission you see everyday. Gurgel even had a good sense of humor about it. She posted this picture on her Twitter account.
Gurgel's caption? "Too soon? Nah. [expletive] happens."

Bellator MMA has made a successful run hitherto by essentially setting itself apart from the pack with its tournament format. There has always been one inherent issue, however, as champions are almost rarely afforded the opportunity to defend their title due to having to wait for the tournaments to run their course. Looking at the [...]
The folding of Strikeforce has been labeled by many as being ?bittersweet?. While the conflicting emotions are understandable considering the company’s history, a huge positive of the deal involves the intrigue created by the migration of the organization?s top fighters into the UFC?s ranks. Hi, I?m new here. But not as new as you might think. In fact, I?ve been writing about MMA for so long, I need to sit in front of the computer every morning and mull over the headlines before anything else, otherwise I wander around dazed and confused all day. Anyway, here?s what stuck out [...]

This Saturday, Strikeforce will host its final show. The promotion, owned by the UFC's parent company, will cease to exist, leaving many of their fighters to the UFC. No assumptions are being made on any fighters joining the UFC, but here are the 10 best from the Strikeforce roster* who are now available to the UFC.
10. Miesha Tate -- The woman who lasted the longest against Ronda Rousey can also be one of the bricks that help build the UFC women's bantamweight division. A rematch with Sarah Kaufman would be a great bout to show that women not named Rousey can be draws.
9. Josh Barnett -- Though he hasn't been in the UFC since 2002, Barnett is still an exciting heavyweight to add to one of the UFC's best divisions. Before his loss to Daniel Cormier, Barnett was on an eight-fight win streak, with seven of those fights ending with a submission or knockout.
8. Tim Kennedy -- The longtime Strikeforce standout should get a chance with the UFC after Saturday's bout with Trevor Smith. He was a part of some of Strikeforce's most exciting bouts, and will get to show just how good he is in the UFC's middleweight division.
7. Gegard Mousasi -- The one-time light heavyweight champion can be a thrilling fighter to watch. He will get to show where he belongs with Saturday's bout against Mike Kyle.
6. Ronaldo "Jacare" Souza -- He has great submission skills, and showed in his last bout that he has knockout power, too. Souza will get his first chance against a UFC fighter on Saturday against Ed Herman.
5. Cristiane "Cyborg" Santos -- She is coming off of a suspension because of a banned substance, but before that suspension, she was the most dominant female fighter in the world. If she wants to come to the UFC, she'll have to cut down to 135, but if she did, the bout against Rousey would be insane.
4. Nate Marquardt -- The welterweight champ will get a chance to defend his belt on Saturday against Tarec Saffiedine. He has plenty of UFC experience and a record of 32-10. He also said he would be up for fighting teammate, friend and UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre.
3. Luke Rockhold -- The middleweight champ is excited to get more difficult competition, and he will finally get a bigger stage to show off his well-rounded style.
2. Gilbert Melendez -- In many ways, Melendez needs the UFC's lightweight division more than it needs him. He cleaned out Strikeforce's lightweights some time ago, and it will be exciting to see such a high-level lightweight take on one of the UFC's toughest divisions.
1. Daniel Cormier -- Despite being a huge underdog, Cormier walked through Strikeforce's heavyweight grand prix. His wrestling is unparalleled in the UFC, and he showed against Antonio Silva that his striking game isn't to be looked past as well. The biggest question is what division he'll join. His teammate Cain Velasquez is the heavyweight champion, and Cormier has said he wants to fight UFC light heavyweight champ Jon Jones.
*Some Strikeforce fighters, like Derek Brunson and Tyron Woodley, have already crossed over to the UFC. The fighters chosen for this list are ones who are currently listed on Strikeforce's website.
Do you think the list should be different? Speak up in the comments, on Facebook or on Twitter.
He was a finalist in TUF Brazil, but was unable to fight at the finale due to injury. That didn't slow Daniel Sarafian down, and now he's finally making his UFC debut opposite the very dangerous C.B. During Benson Henderson's win over Nate Diaz at UFC on Fox 5, the Fox broadcast repeatedly cut away to a shot of the empty octagon. Was it a technical difficulty? Did someone on Fox's broadcast truck hit the wrong button?
No. Diaz threw up the middle finger at his opponent, and the network cut away instead of risking a fine from the Federal Communications Commission.
This isn't the first time Diaz has caused a stir on network television. After a Strikeforce fight in 2010 on CBS, Diaz, his brother Nick and their teammates got into a postfight melee when Jason "Mayhem" Miller jumped into the cage after a Jake Shields win.
Diaz is known for using trash talk and throwing up the middle finger during fights. He famously locked in a triangle choke with his legs on Kurt Pellegrino and put up both fingers as he finished the submission. Henderson knew this and prepared for Diaz's game.
"It's something I actually had a little bit of a hard time with, but once my training partners got together, they all started talking crap to me in the middle of sparring and I'd get angry," Henderson said on Fuel TV's postfight show. "They helped control it and I did a pretty good job of being very focused and not letting that affect my emotional state in the middle of the fight."

In other action, fighters Josh Barnett, Gegard Mousasi, and Ronaldo "Jacare" Souza.
