Georges St. Pierre to make announcement at press conference Friday

According to the Journal de Montreal, UFC welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre will convene a press conference this Friday with local media to make an announcement. The long-time champion made waves when he announced that he was stepping away from MMA after being awarded a controversial split decision win over Johny Hendricks in their UFC 167 main event bout last month.

Since that time, St. Pierre's coaches, mentor, teammates, rivals and bosses have all speculated as to whether the 32 year old will indeed retire, take a leave of absence or immediately get back into action. The fighter himself, however, has been mostly silent.

That should change at Friday's press conference. What do you think St. Pierre will announce? Let us know in the comments section.

Watch highlights of St. Pierre vs. Hendricks after the jump:

Nate Diaz: I?ll be fighting for UFC title soon

Nearly one year ago, Nate Diaz had worked his way to a UFC lightweight title bout against then champion Benson Henderson. Since losing a decision to "Bendo," however, a lot has changed for Diaz and the division.

Diaz lost his following fight by KO to Josh Thomson and Henderson would go on to lose his belt to Anthony Pettis. Still, ahead of his TUF 18 main event rubber match against Gray Maynard, Diaz is confident that he'll be fighting for a championship again soon.

"This is survival of the fittest," Diaz recently said during an UFC interview.

"I beat [Maynard], I'm going to hunt down Pettis and Thomson's ass and take them out. I'll be back fighting for a title real quick."

Diaz first faced Maynard in an exhibition bout on season 5 of The Ultimate Fighter, choking him into submission with a guillotine choke. The two faced one another again 2010 and Maynard won a close decision that Diaz still disputes.

"I'm going to beat Gray Maynard. It's the third time fighting him. Finish it off and seal the deal. I won the first one. I think I won the second fight, too. You can ask him how he won the fight. I'll bet you he don't got too good of an answer," the Stockton, CA native says.

Diaz isn't discounting the danger Maynard poses in their third fight this Saturday in Las Vegas. He simply believes that he'll be able to bully "The Bully" and close this chapter in his career.

"I've gotten better and I think he's gotten better, too. He wrestles good and he hits hard. He's a good athlete. It's nothing I haven't dealt with before," Diaz says.

"I'm going to be in his face. I'm going to let him know that I'm there to win."

UFC?s Anthony Pettis out 6-8 months, wants Nate Diaz upon return

We were afraid of this. New UFC lightweight champion Anthony Pettis recently suffered the latest in a string of serious knee injuries this year and had to pull out of a title defense against Josh Thomson.

Now, Pettis says that the injury will keep him sidelined for six to eight months.

?The doctor said six to eight months. I?m hoping six months, so hopefully I?ll be back for a July fight," Pettis told UFC Tonight.

When the champ does return, he hopes it will be to face outspoken Nate Diaz.

?Nate Diaz has been talking so much. He looked pretty decent in his last fight. I hope he works his way up and we get to fight," Pettis explained.

Diaz just beat former two-time title challenger Gray Maynard with a first round TKO, of course, and has said that he himself wants to sit out until a top contender gets injured and he can fight for the title. So...who knows what will happen?

Between injuries, retirements, weight cuts and just plain weird luck, next summer Anderson Silva and Georges St. Pierre could be fighting for the UFC lightweight title for all we know (fingers crossed).

Who do you want to see Pettis face when he finally gets healthy? Let us know in the comments section.
