The UFC has seen its fair share of headlining fighters go down for health-related reasons over the past few weeks. Unfortunately, it appears heavyweight Shane Carwin is now one of them, though on the bright side he is only expected to be out for a few weeks and won?t be forced to withdraw from an upcoming tilt with opposing TUF 16 coach Roy Nelson.
Carwin revealed his status on Twitter, saying he would be unable to travel overseas for a signing he?d been scheduled to participate in due to some problems with his knee.
MMAWeekly later confirmed the injury with Carwin?s management where it was stated the hard-hitting heavyweight hadn?t torn anything and would be back to 100% in time for a December 15 fight with Nelson at the Ultimate Fighter 16 Finale. The minimal nature of the damage is certainly good news to fans of Carwin, as the 37-year old has been out since June 2011 due to a variety of injury issues.
Carwin: “I hate Nelson as a person…”
Nelson and Carwin can both be seen heading TUF teams every Friday night on FX. The two men have yet to bump heads on the show, though their dislike of one another on a personal level is well-documented due to numerous spats in the media.
