Injured champion Luke Rockhold removed from November Strikeforce fight

It looks like the injury bug that?s bitten a number of UFC headliners over the past few months isn?t limited to Zuffa?s premier MMA organization, as Strikeforce has seen another one of its champions go down due to damage suffered while training for an upcoming main event. Fresh off watching lightweight title-holder Gilbert Melendez pull out of a September defense, middleweight king Luke Rockhold has reportedly withdrawn from a November 3 meeting with Lorenz Larkin after hurting his wrist in the gym.

No specifics were offered on his condition. It is believed Strikeforce will seek a replacement for him in the bout based on the amount of time remaining before showtime. Rockhold?s removal marks the second major hit the November card has taken with heavyweight Frank Mir having already been forced out of a fight with Daniel Cormier.

MMAFighting has confirmed the matter with sources in Strikeforce though no official announcement has been made yet.

A Closer Look at Rockhold’s Most Recent Win

The 10-1 Rockhold has been one of the bright spots on Strikeforce?s roster, beating the likes of Keith Jardine, Ronaldo Souza, and Tim Kennedy in his last three tilts. However, he?s also been a regular presence on the company?s proverbial I.R. list with a series of injuries sidelining him over the past couple of years.
