Brett Rogers signs with Bellator after losing streak and assault arrest
Brett Rogers started his career with 10 wins, and followed it with four losses, one win, a no contest, an assault arrest stemming from a domestic abuse incident and a jail sentence of 60 days. Now, he's looking to start over again by signing with Bellator.
"Over the past year I have been challenged in my personal life, but all is now good in the Rogers family," Rogers said via a Bellator press release. "Everyone makes mistakes in life but it's how you recover that really counts. I spend every day with my wife and kids and enjoy every minute of it. Fighting is my job and I love it, but I also love my family and that's why I made things right before returning to the cage. All I can say is get ready for a new and improved Brett Rogers."
Rogers' last win came in October of 2010 over Ruben Villareal. After that, he dropped bouts to Josh Barnett and Eddie Sanchez. The no-contest comes from a February bout. He also has losses to Fedor Emelianenko and Alistair Overeem, and his biggest win came over Andrei Arlovski in June of 2009.
He will debut at Bellator 71 on June 22. An opponent has not been named.
UFC 146 picks cover the biggest UFC card ever
UFC 146's all-heavyweight main card is this Saturday. To prime you for the the fights, read the picks from Kevin Iole, a selection of Cagereaders who posted their picks on the Cagewriter Facebook page and me. Don't agree with the picks? Speak your mind in the comments, on Facebook or on Twitter.
Champion Junior dos Santos vs. Frank Mir for the UFC heavyweight title
Kevin Iole: Junior dos Santos KO1 Frank Mir ? This could just as easily be Mir by first-round submission, but since all fights begin on the feet, I will go with dos Santos by KO.
Maggie Hendricks: JDS KO1 Mir ? Mir's only hope is to get this fight to the ground to avoid Junior's powerful stand-up. But as Shane Carwin and Cain Velasquez learned, getting JDS to the ground is not an easy feat, and Mir won't succeed.
Cagereader's take: Frank Mir is an outstanding, decorated mixed martial artist. He can be dangerous on his feet and clearly on the ground as well if you look at his past submissions. His best bet is to figure out how he can get Junior dos Santos to the mat. The unfortunate part for Mir is that dos Santos possesses some of the best standup in the heavyweight division and I think Mir will struggle with those heavy-hitting fists Junior is going to throw. I love them both as fighters but my guess is dos Santos will win this one and retain his belt via TKO. ? Roberto Garza
Cain Velasquez vs. Antonio Silva
Iole: Cain Velasquez TKO2 Antonio Silva ? I think Velasquez is the best heavyweight in the world and will prove it against Big Foot. Velasquez is a better version of Daniel Cormier and Cormier had his way with Silva.
Hendricks: Velasquez TKO1 Silva ? Velasquez has had to deal with competitors bigger than him since he was was Division I wrestler at Arizona State. He's learned how to use his speed, takedowns and striking to handle the size disadvantage, and he'll do it again on Saturday.
Cagereader's take: Cain Velasquez by TKO. Cain will rebound nicely in this bout. We'll see him return to his stalking/aggressive fight style which will eventually lead to some ground and pound against Silva. Silva is a top heavyweight but he's not very quick. He won't have a quick enough reaction to keep Cain away. ? Eddie Ledezma
Dave Herman vs. Roy Nelson
Iole: Roy Nelson W3 Dave Herman ? Nelson has the power to take Herman out, but most likely, Herman survives but takes a beating.
Hendricks: Nelson W3 Dave Herman ? Not to just copy Kev, but I don't see a way this fight will end early. This fight will be the bout it IS OK to blink while it's happening.
Cagereader's take: Roy Nelson will win against Herman. He is all wrong for Herman. Iron chin, BJJ blackbelt, better striking. Standup or ground game, Nelson is clearly better. ? Daniel Natividad
Stipe Miocic vs. Shane del Rosario
Iole: Shane del Rosario W3 Stipe Miocic ? This is more of a hunch because I don't know which del Rosario will show up. He's been off for a year since an auto accident. Del Rosario is a budding star and if he's healthy, I like him to make a statement against Miocic.
Hendricks: Miocic W3 del Rosario ? My heart says del Rosario because after the year he's had, he deserves a win. He was in a car accident with a drunk driver and even contemplated retirement during his trip back to the cage. However, Miocic's wrestling and striking will be too much.
Cagereader's take: I pick Miocic to win by decision. Del Rosario is the better and more experienced striker, but Miocic's wrestling ability will carry him to a decision victory. Miocic is confident in his hands, but he will eventually resort back to his bread and butter once he realizes the gap in striking ability between him and Del Rosario. Del Rosario has lacked in the takedown defense department before, and I expect him to have similar issues against the former NCAA Division I wrestler. Once on the mat, Miocic will land consistently from the top position, controlling the action and landing often enough to earn a decision win. ? Robert MacDonald
Stefan Struve vs. Lavar Johnson
Iole: Struve SUB2 Johnson ? Struve is susceptible to good strikers, but Johnson has a great vulnerability on the ground. I think Johnson has his moments, but look for Struve to take advantage of a mistake and end it with a submission.
Hendricks: Johnson KO2 Struve ? Though Struve does have a dangerous ground game, he opens himself up to getting punched in the face too often. Johnson is really, really good at punching people in the face.
Cagereader's take: Johnson ? I wanted to see Mark Hunt in this fight, but I actually see it going remarkably similar to how I would predict that one. Johnson has the style to wade in, get close, and do damage. That's enough to beat Struve. Struve's best option will be to pull guard and see if he can slap on a sub with his long limbs. I doubt he gets that chance, though. ? John Wilcox
Thank you to everyone who submitted picks.

MMA Marketplace: Frank Mir?s UFC 146 walkout shirt
Though Frank Mir's opponent changed for UFC 146, his sponsor didn't. He is still sponsored by the UFC, like Jon Jones. They gave him a walkout shirt that's low-key and collegiate-looking.
Plus, it has pretty stars and I'm a sucker for pretty stars. Buy it for $29.95.
Note: Junior dos Santos' walkout shirt for this weekend was not online, but you can buy this wall hanging depicting the champ, so ... win.

TUF Live Winner Michael Chiesa Without The Epic Beard
Source: http://www.themmanews.com/tuf-live-winner-michael-chiesa-without-the-epic-beard/
Cain Velasquez, Jamie Varner and Glover Teixeira are UFC 146?s three stars
When plans for an all-heavyweight main card at UFC 146 were announced, I was skeptical. While heavyweights can deliver thrilling knockouts, they can also deliver boring wheezefests consisting of two large men pushing at each other. My skepticism was misplaced, because UFC 146 turned out to be one of the best cards of the year. Starting with Mike Brown's return to winning ways and ending with the Junior dos Santos' convincing title defense, this card delivered. But who stood out more than the rest?
No. 1 star -- Cain Velasquez: Losing his title to JDS in just 64 seconds could have messed with Velasquez's head, or it could have motivated him. Judging by the amount of blood that came from Antonio Silva's head (more on that later), Velasquez took the latter route. That dismantling of "Big Foot" propelled Velasquez back into heavyweight title contention.
No. 2 star -- Jamie Varner: Coming into UFC 146, Edson Barboza had 10 straight wins over such fighters as Ross Pearson, Terry Etim and Anthony Njokuani. Coming into UFC 146, Jamie Varner hadn't fought in the UFC for a year and a half. His last three fights? Wins in XFC over Drew Fickett and Nate Jolly and a loss to Dakota Cochrane.
None of that mattered Saturday. Varner, the one-time WEC lightweight champ, was given his chance back at the UFC and stopped the Barboza freight train with unrelenting pressure and a first-round TKO.
No. 3 star -- Glover Teixiera: Visa issues prevented Teixiera from fighting in the U.S. previously. In just one minute, 53 seconds, Teixiera let fans know what we've been missing. He beat up on Kyle Kingsbury, then sunk in an arm-triangle to get the submission win.
Honorable mention -- Blood: The liquid that courses through our veins made quite an appearance on Saturday night. It showed up in Brown's win over Pineda, made cameos in Dan Hardy's knockout of Duane Ludwig and Stipe Miocic's TKO of Shane Del Rosario. But blood truly took its star turn in the Velasquez-Silva bout. There was so. Much. Blood. In the unofficial Cagewriter blood-o-meter, it topped Josh Koscheck's decision over Chris Lytle and Karl Amoussou's submission of John Doyle.
Who were your three stars from Saturday night? Tell us in the comments, on Facebook or on Twitter.
Houston Alexander Ricardo Almeida Eddie Alvarez Thiago Alves
Roy Nelson?s Beard has plenty to say
Roy Nelson got a chance to speak at Thursday's UFC 146 press conference, but his beard remained silent. That is, until now. In a Cagewriter exclusive, Roy Nelson's Beard (RNB) spoke about its past, future, and what it brings to Nelson's game.
Cagewriter: How are you feeling today?
RNB: Good. Full. Ready to take on Dave Herman.
CW: How long have you been with Roy?
RNB: Well, I've been a part of his life for some time, but it was just in the past year or so that Roy really let me shine. He and I push each other to make each other great. It's truly a symbiotic relationship.
CW: What do you bring to his MMA game?
RNB: What DON'T I bring to his game? Striking, wrestling, jiu-jitsu, I taught him all of that. When he and his coaches come up with his game plan, they turn to me for advice. TKOing "Cro Cop"? That was all me.
CW: So then do you also take the blame for the fact he's lost three of his last four bouts?
RNB: Well, we're a team. We lose together, y'know? It's not just Roy out there. It's me, the belly, the mullet.
CW: Is there ever a rivalry between you?
RNB: Well, I'll let you in on a secret. The belly is TOTALLY jealous of me. He always used to get all the attention, but since Roy has been getting in better shape, he's lost prominence. Now it's all eyes on me.
CW: Has Roy talked to you about the future? Will he definitely keep you around or is there discussion of ... a razor?
RNB? Why would you ask such a thing? That's sick. Seriously. A razor? To what? Shave me off? You don't shave me off. You don't get rid of a glorious beard like this one. Are you crazy. I'm done. Interview's over.
CW: Well, thanks for your time.

Dana White: Brock Lesnar might want to come back
During the UFC all-heavyweight main card at UFC 146 on Saturday night, one of the promotion's best-known heavyweights was sitting in crowd. Brock Lesnar, who recently retired from the UFC and went back to a career in pro wrestling, was shown on camera. He was just there as a fan ... right?
Well, maybe. UFC president Dana White hinted there may have been more to Brock Lesnar's attendance than a weekend trip to Las Vegas.
"He texted me and said, 'I want to come to the fight, but keep it quiet because I don't want to tell anybody,'" White said. "He said, 'What are you doing tonight? ... I want to talk face to face.'
"You never know with him. He might want to come back. He might just want to hang out."
Lesnar's career in the UFC just had seven fights, but four of them had a title on the line. He beat Randy Couture for the belt in his fourth MMA bout, and appeared unbeatable after a title defense against Frank Mir. A bout of diverticulitis slowed Lesnar, and he lost to Cain Velasquez and Alistair Overeem in his last two MMA bouts.
After walking away from MMA in December, Lesnar returned to WWE. His most recent matches featured a loss to John Cena and then a win over Triple H using a Kimura, a Brazilian jiu-jitsu moved he learned as a fighter.
Though he did lose his last two fights, Lesnar's talent cannot be denied. He was an NCAA Division I champion, bringing wrestling skills to the cage. He was also an unrelenting striker.
Though it's been just months since he left the UFC, he would be returning to a division that is stronger than ever. Junior dos Santos defended his belt against Mir and Velasquez TKOed Antonio Silva at UFC 146. Daniel Cormier just won the Strikeforce heavyweight grand prix and emerged as a contender for the UFC belt.
If his face-to-face talk with White does lead to a return, Lesnar won't get an easy fight. He will make the already-intriguing heavyweight division more interesting.
